Join Amanda Kent & Caroline Jarvis for this unique special event combining Gong Meditation with Restorative Yoga at Karma Studios
The gong is an ancient sound mediation instrument which played creates deep sustained waves of sounds allowing profound relaxation to occur. The vibration of the gong will support you in the restorative asanas and allow you to relax more easily into the poses.
Gong with yoga seems to encourage both a deeper inner journey with your yoga and a release of the mind chatter. We will be ending with a short gong bath meditation so please bring a warm layer and perhaps a blanket and pillow for you head.
The purpose of restorative yoga is to provide rest and rejuvenation to muscles and connective tissues. Relaxing on an assortment of supports may seem lacking in difficulty, but it is challenging for some to find the stillness and patience required for the long holds.
It’s essential for us to give our muscles a chance to rest and rebound from exercise and from everyday life. Even one restorative yoga pose will lead to a calm, restful state.

The Dance of Yoga is a harmonious, fluid and creative approach to yoga to nurture your body, mind and spirit. This workshop will help to develop your Body Awareness and teach you to use your breath consciously.

The Dance of Yoga is an integrated yoga practice to stretch and exercise your creative potential. The core of this practice is to access and develop the feeling of your body through a mindful approach of yoga. The practice reaches way beyond the exploration of the physical body and supports the development of the energetic (pranic) body through a playful and varied approach of breathing, movement and sounding. The harmonious merging of body, breath and movement will increase the sensitivity, spaciousness and fluidity in your body and mind. As the body starts to open and readily receive energy we will introduce various approaches to meditation including mudras, visualisation and affirmations that resonate with our own being. We will close the workshop with a nurturing alchemy crystal singing bowl meditation. You will leave relaxed and recharged from head to toe.

Surya Namaskar – the Sun Salutation series – is a key asana sequence in many yoga classes.
In this workshop, Caroline will work with the group to break down each component of The Sun Salutation sequences. We’ll explore each pose individually in complete detail, then explore how the poses relate to one another physically and energetically, and finally put each sequence together from start to finish.

Participants will gain practical knowledge of the correct alignment for each individual pose in the Surya Namaskar sequences and develop a feel for how to move smoothly and continuously from one pose to the next while using the appropriate breathing technique.

You’ll learn how to:
•Breathe in flow with your movements
•Practice safely so areas such as your lower spine and knees are protected
•Find good alignment in poses

This workshop’s focus is to bring awareness to and enliven the core strength.

During the Workshop, you will learn safe and effective ways to strengthen the core.

A stable core can make balancing poses easier and are the key to preventing or eliminating back pain. You will learn abdominal exercises that are alternatives to traditional crunches, thereby preventing any neck or upper-back tension, or back strain.

Recent studies have shown that the safest and most effective abdominal exercises are those that work the deep stabilising muscles (transverse abdominals) and not just the superficial ones.

This workshop includes specific back-strengthening poses, standing balances, and a handout to take home with you.

Ancient Wisdom for a Modern Life

This 3 hour workshop is specifically geared towards learning about the root causes of back pain - be they chronic or acute and considering a different approach through Ayurveda and Yoga that will allow you to be able to regain balance and harmony in mind and body.

Ayurveda and Yoga are sisters in science. Ayurveda means 'Science of Life' and both have been developed during the last 5000 years and are more relevant than ever in today's stressful world.

Ayurveda looks to always address the core of the problem rather than the symptoms and so does the physical and mental practice of yoga. Within the Hatha Yoga tradition a range of postures help you to gain a deeper understanding of how to move your body effectively and efficiently.

This workshop will guide you into understanding the origin or your back pain, and will help you to work with those yoga postures best suited to you. Learn to deal with any lower back pain, as and when it arises, swiftly and safely.

Meditation is often very difficult with our busy lives but we know instinctively that finding that quiet space in our minds is so important for our wellbeing. Gongs have been used for centuries as a meditation tool, the sound waves give your mind something to follow while entering into a meditative state and your body becomes deeply relaxed as the vibrations move through every cell like a micro massage.
In the gong bath I use the beautiful loving energy of the Paiste Venus Gong. Paiste planet gongs are tuned to what is believed to be the tone of each celestial body according to calculations of Hans Cousto. The gong bath provides a deep healing and clearing but one which is gentle and loving, which is the nature of the Venus gong. Gong baths are best received lying down to enable you to let go, so please bring a blanket for covering to make yourself comfortable and able to surrender to whatever healing you need (mats, bolsters and blocks are available to use within the studio).

When the pace of life is fast, our minds move fast, too. When we are also attracted to a strong, fast-moving Yoga practice, we can easily over stimulate ourselves — and our nervous system takes the beating.
The beauty of restorative Yoga is that there is no muscular contraction involved. We believe we have to “work” to increase flexibility, but often we achieve more opening in parts of the body that we perceive as tight by softening and relaxing than through an active asana practice. During a Restorative Yoga sequence you still stretch, but you relax fully in the stretch, so that tension can slowly be released.
Because the body and mind relax, literally becoming softer, we also create space to get in touch again with our natural qualities of compassion and understanding of others and self.

This class unites two powerful ways to relax: Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra.
The first hour of class is devoted to Yin Yoga. This practice involves postures that deeply lengthen muscles and connective tissues encasing joints and all muscle, thereby helping to improve joint mobility and overall flexibility. Students hold these poses between 2 and 10 minutes each, allowing ample time for deep-seated patterns of tension in the body to begin to release.
In addition, the slow pace of Yin helps to calm the nervous system and provides students with an opportunity to slow down, rest, and revitalise.

The final half hour of the class is devoted to a unique style of guided meditation called Yoga Nidra, often translated as 'yogic sleep.'

In Yoga Nidra, students lie comfortably on the floor and are guided in placing awareness on different focal points, including parts of the body, the movement of the breath, and the contents of the imagination. The result is a profoundly restful meditation in which students approach a state similar to sleep while retaining a sense of wakeful awareness.
Yoga Nidra can be an excellent way to counter stress and prevent stress-related illness. Also, because it is done lying on the back, it is accessible to students who may not be able to sit upright for long periods and yet still wish to explore meditation. Students of all experience levels are welcome.

Students hold these poses between 2 and 10 minutes each, allowing ample time for deep-seated patterns of tension in the body to begin to release.
In addition, the slow pace of Yin helps to calm the nervous system and provides students with an opportunity to slow down, rest, and revitalise.

The final half hour of the class is devoted to a unique style of guided meditation called Yoga Nidra, often translated as 'yogic sleep.'

In Yoga Nidra, students lie comfortably on the floor and are guided in placing awareness on different focal points, including parts of the body, the movement of the breath, and the contents of the imagination. The result is a profoundly restful meditation in which students approach a state similar to sleep while retaining a sense of wakeful awareness.
Yoga Nidra can be an excellent way to counter stress and prevent stress-related illness. Also, because it is done lying on the back, it is accessible to students who may not be able to sit upright for long periods and yet still wish to explore meditation. Students of all experience levels are welcome.

Join Caroline for two hours of soothing, gentle yoga, pranayama and meditation - the perfect antidote for any Christmas stress or excess.

We will begin the workshop with reclined breath awareness and meditation practice to help cultivate openness and deep relaxation. This will be followed by a slow mindful asana flow providing the opportunity to linger quietly and savour the simple sweetness and deep relaxation within each pose. These soothing and well supported poses help to soothe the nervous system and rejuvenate the mind and body. Restorative Yoga has the ability to leave us feeling nourished and well rested, helping to support us during times of stress, fatigue or for when you are just plain over-worked!

You will experience a deeply relaxing, meditative practice and leave refreshed and ready for the festive season ahead.

What is Gong Meditation?
Meditation is often very difficult with our busy lives but we know instinctively that finding that quiet space in our minds is so important for our wellbeing. Gongs have been used for centuries as a meditation tool, the sound waves give your mind something to follow while entering into a meditative state and your body becomes deeply relaxed as the vibrations move through every cell like a micro massage.
In the gong bath I use the beautiful loving energy of the Paiste Venus Gong. Paiste planet gongs are tuned to what is believed to be the tone of each celestial body according to calculations of Hans Cousto. The gong bath provides a deep healing and clearing but one which is gentle and loving, which is the nature of the Venus gong. Gong baths are best received lying down to enable you to let go, so please bring a blanket for covering to make yourself comfortable and able to surrender to whatever healing you need (mats, bolsters and blocks are available to use within the studio).

Following the success of Caroline’s Yoga Weekends to Arundel over the last two years, we are excited to share with you that in 2018, Caroline will be hosting two weekends at the lovely Brooklands Barn, Arundel, West Sussex.

Brooklands Barn is a luxurious retreat centre with panoramic views of the Arun Valley and Arundel Castle. Recently voted one of the best retreat centres in West Sussex!

This exclusive weekend will also include the services of our own personal chef who will be preparing all our meals, snacks and refreshments using locally sourced organic produce.

Brooklands Barn in Arundel, West Sussex is a luxurious 19th century converted barn in a rural setting, just under 1 mile from the historic centre of Arundel, West Sussex, a short walk from the River Arun, with breathtaking views of the Sussex downs.
